How often should my pool be serviced in Townsville?

In Townsville's climate, it depends on how your pool is set up. Heavy-use or unscreened pools usually want a weekly service. Screened or low-debris pools are normally fine fortnightly. At the first visit I'll tell you honestly which your pool actually needs — I don't upsell you to weekly if fortnightly will do the job.

What does a regular maintenance visit include?

Every scheduled visit includes: surface skim, wall and waterline brush, floor vacuum, skimmer/pump basket empty, filter backwash if needed, full water test (pH, chlorine, alkalinity, stabiliser, salt), on-site dosing as required, and a full equipment check. Chemicals used are itemised at cost on your visit report. You get a short SMS or email summary after every visit so you know exactly what was done, in plain English — no jargon, no lectures.

How do chemical costs work — are they included?

I supply the chemicals — you don't need to keep a shed full of chlorine and acid. They're charged at cost and itemised on every visit report, so you see exactly what went in and what it cost. That's deliberately different from "all-inclusive" plans, which bake a buffer into the service fee to cover the worst pool on the route — meaning well-kept pools quietly subsidise the neighbour's green one. With Tico, you only pay for what your pool actually uses. Specialty treatments — heavy shock for green rescues, flocculant, stain removers — are quoted and approved before we apply them.

How quickly can you rescue a green pool?

Most green pools are safely swimmable within 3–7 days from when we start, depending on how bad the bloom is and whether the equipment is working properly. The rescue price covers return visits until it's clear — we don't walk away from half-done work, and if we can't restore it you don't pay for the rescue.

You're new to Townsville — why should I trust you with my pool?

New to Townsville, not new to pools. I've spent the last 10+ years servicing pools across Perth and Melbourne — weekly maintenance routes, green pool rescues, equipment diagnostics and installs, every variation of problem a pool can throw. The trade is well-worn ground; what's new is the business I've built around it up here in QLD. You're hiring a decade of hands-on experience, with the care of someone who's just staked his name on it. Founding clients also lock in launch pricing for 12 months, which is my way of saying thanks for taking the chance.

What's your background — where did you learn the trade?

Perth and Melbourne. I've spent the last 10+ years servicing residential and commercial pools across both cities — weekly routes, emergency rescues, equipment repair and installation. Moving to Townsville to be closer to my own family up here (my partner's family is back in Costa Rica — hence the name). Same trade, new climate, same standard. North Queensland pools deserve a proper, modern service operator and I reckon I'm the right one to do it.

How do your prices work? Are there hidden call-out fees?

No hidden fees. Pricing depends on pool size, condition, and how often we visit. The starting 'from' prices on the site are a genuine floor for a standard small-to-medium Townsville pool. When you book, we confirm the exact number in writing — call-outs, chemicals, travel (if any) — all rolled into one figure before we touch the pool.

Can you service my pool while I'm away on holiday?

Yes, this is one of our favourites. You can leave keys, use a smart lock code, or organise access however suits you. We send a photo-backed report after each visit so you can see exactly what your pool looks like, and we flag anything that needs attention before it becomes a problem you come home to.

What if equipment breaks down between visits?

Ring or text — if you're on a maintenance plan you get priority scheduling for equipment issues, and we'll try to get to you same-day or next-day. We diagnose, quote in one number, and don't start paid work without your OK. For non-plan customers we still prioritise genuine emergencies where we can.

Do you service rural properties outside of Townsville?

Yes, within reasonable driving distance. For rural and acreage properties further out, we include a travel fee in the quote up-front so there are no surprises. Drop your postcode in the booking form and we'll confirm same day.

What's the Pura Vida Promise?

It's the six things I commit to in writing: (1) On-time or next clean's on me. (2) Clear water or we come back free. (3) Green-rescue guarantee — can't restore it, don't pay for it. (4) Plain English, always — no jargon, no tech-speak; you don't need to understand pool chemistry, that's what you pay me for. (5) Fully insured, properly set up. (6) Same-day reply to calls, texts, and emails, 7 days. If I ever miss one, tell me — I'll make it right.

Are you insured?

Yes. Public liability insurance, correct chemical handling and storage, and compliant with Australian pool-safety operating standards. Happy to show documentation on request.

How do I pay?

Bank transfer, card, or Apple/Google Pay — whatever suits. Maintenance plans get invoiced monthly in advance so there's no chasing every fortnight. One-off jobs and rescues are invoiced on completion.

Can I cancel a maintenance plan?

Any time, no lock-in contracts, no exit fees. If you ever want to pause while you're away or stop altogether, one text is enough. I'd rather you stay because we're actually earning it every visit.

Do you do pool inspections for house sales?

Yes — pre-sale pool cleans and water-quality reports are great for signalling to buyers that the pool's been looked after. Ask when booking and we'll tailor the scope.
